Michigan Football Game Day | BigBlueFootballHistory.com

Game days are always special days for Wolverine fans and today is no different. Michigan starts season number one-hundred thirty-seven with the pressure of great expectations surrounding Jim Harbaugh and his talented Wolverines. If you want all the pre-game hype information there are many fine websites that you can go to for that information.

At Big Blue Football History, we will stick to the history of what has already happened on this day in Michigan football and how they have fared against today’s opponent – the University of Hawaii.

Michigan has played a total of four games on September 3rd. This date has been good to the Wolverines as they have won three of four games played on this date. At home they are a perfect 3 wins and 0 losses on September 3rd. Their only loss on this date came last year in Jim Harbaugh’s debut in Salt Lake City, Utah against the Utes. Final Score: Utah 24 Michigan 17.

Here is a quick “history” of the games that Michigan has played on September 3rd and the results:

Game # 1 – September 3, 1994 @ Michigan Stadium Score: Michigan 34 Boston College 26

Game # 2 – September 3, 2005 @ Michigan Stadium Score: Michigan 33 Northern Illinois University 17

Game # 3 – September 3, 2011 @ Michigan Stadium Score: Michigan 34 Western Michigan University 10

Game # 4 – September 3, 2015 @ Utah Score: Utah 24 Michigan 17

As for Michigan’s opponent today, the Rainbow Warriors of the University of Hawaii, the trend line looks good. Michigan has played Hawaii twice and beat them both times. The first game was almost like a bowl game. It was played on December 6, 1986 in Hawaii. A guy named Jim Harbaugh was a co-captain along with Andy Moeller. They led the Wolverines to a convincing win that included a record-setting eighty-seven yard punt by Monte Robbins. Final score: Michigan 27 Hawaii 10.

Game number two between Michigan and Hawaii was played on November 28, 1998 in Hawaii. Lloyd Carr’s defending National Champions were rude guests as they came away with a 48-17 win.

Hawaii comes into today’s game with a record of 0-1 having lost to California on August 26, 2016 by a score of 51-31. The game was played at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia. The Warriors might be suffering from jet lag when they get to Ann Arbor.  Unfortunately for them, Michigan will be a well-rested team that is eager to open season number one hundred and thirty-seven (137) with a big win.
